Episode #168
Is donor stewardship harder than asking for money?
Quite often, once we get a gift from a donor, the relationship goes cold. Why?
In this week’s episode you’ll hear from Susie Burdick. You’ll discover why stewardship is crucial and how it makes fundraising less stressful and much more enjoyable.
Do you have any tips around stewarding donors? If so, please share them in a comment box below the video. Thanks.

Remember their birthday with an e-mail, card, phone call, flowers, visit or more than one of these.

Being a great steward is much more than sending a card, email, or even taking someone to lunch (although these are all important). It’s about finding out what your donors are passionate about and helping them to acheive their goals. Do this and you will find that they wil be more likely to continue helping you acheive yours. We already know that our donors care about us, we need to show that we care about them. This doesn’t mean that you need to make financial investments to every donors favorite cause or charity. I volunteer to serve on boards and committes that my donors and prospective donors care about. The next time you meet with a donor, ask these two simple questions: 1. What are your passions? 2. How can I help? You will both be happy that you did.

Spot on! Thank you for the reminder!
Randa Cleaves Abramson says
If your organization has a variety of programs, knowing the donors’ specific interests and providing special insights or access to those is very meaningful to them vs. news about the entire operations. Also, remember to ask and honor their communication preferences and frequency- email, phone, in-person.
