Episode #6
Do your views on money affect your work?
In today’s video, Sonya Campion shares how a recognition of her perceptions on money changed the way she performed in her job. She’s a fundraiser and also a philanthropist.
Please excuse the cheesy graphics. I was just having a bit of fun. 🙂

Love the video and the graphics! Tim Downey

This rings so true – especially in my work with mainline faith groups. The Bible does not say that “money is the root of al evil,” rather, “the love of money is the root of all evil.” Hard for people to make that distinction sometimes.
Michelle Wilkinson says
I believe all fundraisers should read the book The Soul of Money by Lynne Twist. An excellent view of one’s feelings and history of money that makes interacting with others about money all the more possible.
Sonya Campion says
Michelle, I wish I had remembered to mention that book…I agree it is an essential read for all fundraisers.
Shanon Doolittle says
You weren’t kidding about the cheesy graphics! Sonya is amazing. Thanks for this video. It’s right on + something all fundraisers need to work through to feel more comfortable about asking for it.
Michelle Banks says
Great perspective — I’ve been a major gift officer for more than a decade & this really struck a chord with me. I will be actively seeking out the type of training Sonya mentioned. Thank you for this great topic!
Amy Varga says
So great you’re bringing this conversation forward. I’ve been helping fundraisers, executive directors and board members explore their feelings about money — and about people who have money — for the last decade. Money and people who have money are so often huge triggers for fundraiders, and left unexamined I believe it’s one of the big points of resistance around fundraising. It’s transformative to explore. I’m actually presenting on this topic “Fundraising from the Inside Out” at the May 17 Washington Nonprofit Confetence if others want to explore more!
