Episode #258
Do you know WHY your donors give?
Two weeks into her development career, Pamela Grow discovered something that made a huge difference in raising money for nonprofit organizations.
In today’s video, Pamela tells you the story behind her discovery and why she almost quit her first fundraising job.
That was years and years ago. Now Pamela writes “The Grow Report” and authored the “Simple Development Systems” for small shops.

I love this video!
Pam’s clear and gentle way captures perfectly the real spirit of fundraising. And her point is perfect! The best, most successful fundraisers understand that giving is at least as much about the donors’ interests and desires as it is about an organization’s needs.
Thanks Pam and Chris!

Pamela hit the nail on the head. With fundraising it takes getting personal and asking them to dig deeper into their own motives for giving. She didn’t allow herself to get overwhelmed with what didn’t go right the previous years, but to take a small portion of what was right (those 20 donors) and improve upon that (reach out to them in a more personal way, without the generic letter or direct mail). It’s that perseverance that will help organizations stay sustainable.
