Episode #230
What makes your donors tick?
In today’s video, Brent Hafele from NewDay Nonprofit Solutions shares a great story about how a “cold call” donor turned into a major donor. Brent will share with you how he was able to tap into the values of the donor. He’ll also tell you the two big takeaways he got from this particular situation.

Good reminders. Discover a donor’s passion and don’t judge a book by its cover! Thanks!
Poetic!!!
Fantastic video and story! Totally validating for my client coaching! Every donor matters, and stewardship is so important!
Probably the most forgotten and most important lesson in this week’s video is that it took Brent three years to move a $250 donation into a strong and loyal. supporter. Its all about relationships.
Well said Brent! Love how you model being a “learning organization.” Makes fund development much more creative, fun and rewarding!
Thanks!
Beautifully expressed. An example in itself of the power of storytelling!
I think all Board members should see this – excellent food for thought as to what motivates people to do philanthropy and who philanthropists are.
Wonderful! Seems it’s a three-step process that’s key: (1) discover your donor’s passion, (2) have a formal way to track your donor’s interests so you can tailor your message, and (3) schedule time to connect with donors. As an auctioneer, I work with many groups who are great at #1, but struggle with #2 and #3. It’s wonderful to see someone who shows it can be done!
